Verve signs outsourcing deal with TARA
Verve signed an exclusive outsourcing deal with the Trust for African Rock Art TARA. The project starting in February 2006 will see the joint team convert into very high resolution images, 20,000 African Rock Art photographic slides.
The project calls for use of highly sophisticated scanning equipment and powerful computers. Mobilized is a high profile team and set up an elaborate production line system to sort, capture, clean, colour correct and index the images, with a quality control station to approve final output.Funding was received from the Andrew Mellon Foundation as part of the ArtStor project, which seeks to make a digital archive of world art. TARA will also make the images available to researchers and the public through its website.
The Trust for African Rock Art, TARA , is dedicated to the awareness and preservation of African rock art . It is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation, registered in Kenya and America , and is devoted to the conservation of Africa ‘s rock art heritage. TARA’s mission is to create greater global awareness of the importance and endangered state of Africa ‘s rock art; to survey sites and monitor their status; to be an information resource and archive; and to promote and support rock art conservation measures.
